This review is about my meal and not the other 6 purchased by myself on an adult family evening, the other 6 members appeared to enjoy their meals as the almost cleared plates testified. I’ve known the Smiddy in since the first brick was laid by its first owner and builder, it’s been a while since I’ve been in the Smiddy for even a drink. As a sea angler and cook I generally favour sea food dishes and this visit to a restaurant was no different, I picked the battered haddock, again I’ll say this is solely about my food, the fish arrived and I noticed the batter was very dark as opposed to golden, maybe the oil was in use for longer than usual as oil has really jumped in price, the batter was really hard, over cooked, this point I mentioned to a member of staff who said he would inform the kitchen, no action was forthcoming, the batter was inedible and once I’d broken through it to see if any of the fish was salvageable I found in my opinion whiting and not haddock but that’s just my opinion, I ate some of the thicker fish but the thinner fish was basically desiccated so as I have two cats I took some home, the cats didn’t want it. We had the meal on Wednesday, on Thursday I didn’t feel very well, kept up during the night going to the toilet, today I should have been going for a covid injection instead in staying home close to the toilet, could have been something I’ve eaten or something else. The only crumb of comfort I can offer the management and staff of the Smiddy is I can 100% guarantee that I will never be in the Smiddy again. You pay your money and you take your chances, only you can make your decisions.
